Volunteer Opportunities
Computer
Rebuild Technicians
All donated computers must be analyzed to determine
what software and components are on the PC. Once an analysis is done, the computer
needs to be rebuilt to meet Computers for Learning specifications, for example,
ensuring that each machine has school district software, Outlook Express and
Internet Explorer. Each computer must go through a quality check before being
distributed.
Translator/Interpreter
In some families,
the parents may speak only Spanish or speak English as a second language. To better
communicate with families through letters, training documentation or updates,
the documents need to be translated into Spanish. Interpreters also are needed
on the delivery and training nights to help better communicate with families.
Time involved would be on an as-needed basis.
Pick-Up
and Delivery Volunteer
The volunteer will coordinate the pick
up of computers for various businesses or private homes. A CFL
staff member will provide the initial coordination and contact; the volunteer
will do the physical pick-up. The computers, after being picked up, must be taken
to the Computers for Learning warehouse where a CFL taff member
will meet. This volunteer position may be needed between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. and
may be needed once a week for two hours. This is very flexible.
Warehouse Inventory Volunteer
When CFL receives
the computers at the warehouse, volunteers are needed to to help organize, lift and
inventory the computers. Time needed would be three to four hours a month, depending
on donations. The need for this type of volunteer is not great currently, but
we expect to need this assistance more in a few months.
